  21. Filter is the software solution to wide spread concerns regarding the
  22. effects of undesirable Internet material on the young people of our
  23. communities.  Such concerns and mounting complaints are resulting in
  24. legislative changes while there are free speech voices which deplore the
  25. intervention of a regulatory authority policing the Internet.

  28. Investigation, Research, and Communication has joined with innovator Jeff
  29. Koftinoff, a computer programmer and president of J.D. Koftinoff Software
  30. Ltd. to create a software product whose time has come.... A filter that will
  31. empower parents to influence, choose, and control what their children can be
  32. exposed to on the Interent.

  34. At present there are two versions of the The Internet Filter. The Internet
  35. Filter Version Zero has been designed to offer protection to children by
  36. allowing parental control via software installation. The Internet Filter
  37. Version One is a comprehensive, multipurpose commercial Internet filter
  38. which includes additional features.  As of Tuesday, July 4th, the child
  39. protector version Zero of The Internet Filter will be made available to all
  40. net users at no financial cost.  A copy may be picked up by anyone who

  54. The Internet Filter is a program that monitors, filters, analyzes, and logs
  55. internet access.  This is the free version of The Internet Filter.  You are
  56. free to use, copy and distribute this package (version Zero) in its
  57. unmodified form.

  105. Free Version Limitations
  106.  
  107. The free version (version Zero) has fixed settings.  You may not modify the
  108. settings.  This means that the data logging and e-mail features are
  109. disabled.  However the permanent settings of the free version are good
  110. enough to block most of the bad information on the internet.  If you wish to
  111. customize the search engine, you must purchase Version One.

  114. System Requirements

  117. The Internet Filter is compatible with Windows version 3.1 and version
  118. 3.11.  It should work with any TCP/IP Winsock DLL.

  121. Installation
  122.  
  123. To install this software, simply double click on the program
  124. 'filtinst.exe'.  This will install the net filter software into your windows
  125. directory and will automatically execute the Net FIlter Configuration
  126. program.

  128. When the configuration program runs, it will ask you for a password.  The
  129. password for the free version of the configuration program is 'password',
  130. and is not changeable.

  132. With the configuration program you can edit all the options for The Internet
  133. Filter.  However, the free version of The Internet Filter does not allow you
  134. to save changes to any options.

  136. Once you run 'filtcfg.exe' once the system will be installed.  If you want,
  137. you may delete the 'filtcfg.exe' program.  The Internet Filter will still
  138. run.

  140. The Internet Filter programs will NOT install their icons into the program
  141. manager.  If you wish to run The Internet Filter Configuration program
  142. again, you must use file manager and run 'filtcfg.exe' in your windows
  143. directory.
